What is Off-Site SEO and How do I use it?

What is Off-Site SEO?

Off-site SEO or search engine optimization is how you optimize your site ranking and increase clicks/visits by building links. also known as backlinks, to your site.

It is different than on-site SEO because it is not implemented on your website, page, or digital asset. It instead involves creating more ways for people to access your webpage and Google to crawl the site.

Allowing Google to crawl the site will help build your site’s credibility if done right.

How do I use Off-Site SEO?

There are a few key things to know about when implementing a strong off-site SEO, such as Diversity, 2-way link exchange, and 3-way link exchange.

        Link Diversity

Diversifying your backlinks is key to success. If you can show Google that multiple people on multiple platforms talking about multiple things that relate to your topic, Google will see your site as credible.

How do you do this? The first step is to ensure that your website contains relevant and commendable information. The second step is to build some backlinks on your own. If your website is brand related I recommend creating social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook, X, and even a blog account like this one. That way you can link your website and its webpages to related content you post.

As your website grows others may also link to your website in their content or reference it. However, to take that first step toward success you may need to reach out and ask someone to link to your site. Finding a blogger or a content creator that posts content related to your page and asking them to link to your site is a great start.

        2-Way and 3-Way Link Exchange

When asking someone to link to your site it is always a good idea to offer to link to theirs in return. An agreement like this is called a link exchange.

A 2-way link exchange occurs when 2 webpages, sites, or digital assets are linked to each other. These links allow Google to crawl between the two sites whenever it passes through. Thus when one website is crawled due to increased backlinks, traffic, etc. the other website has a higher chance of being crawled.

When Google crawls your site it ensures that your content is good and can influence its rank. Making link exchanges a powerful partnership when a website is just starting.

Similarly, a 3-way link forms when 3 websites link to each other Triangularly (website 1 links to website 2, website 2 links to website 3, and website 3 links to website 1).  These can be formed purposefully or by accident. for example, you may link to a webpage that you think has valuable information for your users without knowing that the webpage is linked to a blog post that links to your website.

2-way and 3-way exchanges are the most common, however, there are many different amounts of exchanges that can occur, 10-way, 32-way- and 4-way exchanges are every number in between are possible.

Not all Links are Created Equal!

It is important to note that not all backlinks will help you build awareness. If your website is about yoga and is linked in an article about building a house the link is not going to be as strong as one linked on a top 10 best Yoga companies page. Thus it’s not only the content on your page that needs to be relevant and commendable but also the content on the page that is linking to you.

Webpages with authority are always the best. For example, if you are a car blogger and Ford links to you it would help increase your credibility because of the amount of authority Ford holds when it comes to cars.

Importance of Off-Site SEO

Now knowing a little more about off-site SEO I hope you understand how important it can be. It will help build your credibility, in turn increasing your ranking, brand awareness, and site visits.
